When creating your character, you must choose a path to follow and a path to leave behind. The paths are Warrior, Guardian and Mystic, represented by a Sword, a Shield and a Staff respectively. What the character chooses effects their starting stats, and, in the case of the Mystic, starting MP.

The Path of the Warrior enhances your strength by 3 if chosen, or lowers it by 3 if sacrificed.

"The power of the guardian. Kindness to aid friends. A shield to repel all."
The Path of the Guardian enhances your Defence by 3 and adds an Accessory slot if chosen, or lowers it by 3 if sacrificed.

"The power of the mystic. Inner strength. A staff of wonder and ruin."
The Path of the Mystic enhances your Magic by 3 and MP by 1, or lowers Magic by 3 and MP by 1 if sacrificed. Mystics may also begin with a low tier basic magic spell (Fire, Blizzard, Thunder etc.)
